A promotion from my previous role - in addition to previous responsibilities, I now lead the Weir Surrey quality team and own quality processes for rubber lined piping, hoses, and rubber products shipped out of the Surrey plant. This Includes reviewing and implementing customer specifications for both local and subcontractor production to ensure customer, and regulatory requirements are met, and best practices are implemented in our products. I have mostly stepped away from product improvement research for the time being.

Weir Canada - Surrey division supplies rubber lined products for mining operations.I managed the Weir Fabrication shop during a transition period while the plant was moved from 2 separate locations into 1 new building. The fabrication team was comprised of 25 employees (fitters, welders, & shipping/receiving)My responsibilities included overseeing all aspects of the shop, ensuring smooth work flow from material receipt to shipment to the 2nd plant for rubber lining. Production responsibilities included:- Health and Safety compliance in the shop- On time delivery of orders- Managing the team- Acting to close out nonconformances- Reporting production status to upper management

The Fort Hills Barge Project was a multi-million dollar project consisting of the local construction of 8 enclosed floating platforms with motor, pump, vacuum tank, piping, and controls.I was recruited to the project half way though due to failure to meet cost and delivery targets, I was responsible to bring costs and schedule back on track, and maintain a safe working environment. I worked with the off site project lead, and on site foremen for mechanical, and electrical teams to remove barriers to progress, minimize rework , increase efficiency and coordinate work to bring the project back on track. I worked with the off site project manager to track and control costs, identify non-conformances, and justify back-charges to suppliers to recover lost profits. I worked with the foremen to understand and remove barriers, or recommend alternative paths forward to recover lost ground and benefit from lessons learned in the first half of the project.In addition, I assist both mechanical and electrical crews with acquisition and interpretation of various engineering details as needed - from fastener torque values recommendations to the receipt and interpretation of required electrical drawings. These needs are typically identified through discussion with mechanical and electrical leads to pinpoint the missing piece of information, and either supply it myself - or communicate what is missing back to the design team to fill in the gaps and allow the project a clear path forward.

In Short, the sales team sells the package, I carry it through to completion. Details:I review PO, specifications, schedule expectations, documentation requirements, and commercial aspects of the project to ensure that Weir's understanding meets customer expectations - and immediately clarify any differences to ensure smooth project execution and minimal surprises along the way. Once customer expectations are understood, it is my job to ensure we meet them using realistic delivery forecasts, regular status updates, and knowledge of the process to anticipating issues before they occur, creating space for solutions before they can begin impacting the project. At times - problems can't be anticipated, so I work to mitigate the impact on the project. I am responsible for pushing to project milestones and triggering invoicing reaching them, as well as approving supplier invoices once commitments have been met. I continually search for ways to more efficiently meet customer needs by pointing out additional needs the customer may be unaware they require, while attempting to remove unwanted options to reduce costs when able. I lead documentation initiatives often creating the specific document list from the general required document types requested - and then reviewing all documents for errors, omissions, and completeness before sending out to the customer in order to complete documentation requirements with the minimum number of customer review cycles possible, increasing efficiency, and reducing rework. I have also been integrally involved in process improvement and standardization initiatives to clarify the responsibilities of my position, as well as those of surrounding positions in order to reduce uncertainty as to who is responsible, as well as increase ownership for various tasks. Recently I have been researching below the hook lifting tool requirements, and aim to develop the ability to skillfully design and certify lifting tools within 2015.

At Weir Minerals, I act as engineering support for the service group by generating estimates/quotations and providing technical support (drawings, manuals, technical recommendations) for shop and field work as well as building repair reports and interfacing with the customer to ensure the service group serves the customer as efficiently as possible. Besides this - I also build bid packages for custom service projects which outline work scope, schedule, rates, tools, manning, and documentation - of course, all with the help of an excellent team from millwright to management including both local and international members of the Weir group.

I worked as a project engineer in training in the corrugated box production industry. My work was mostly special projects and process improvement - with my largest project being installation of a complete production line (Flexo-folder gluer, automated conveyor lines, strapper, and load former including CAD layout, foundations, mechanical and electrical installation, and safety systems - with oversite and approval on major aspects from my supervisor. Other projects include design of baler lifting head system for improving safety for maintenance team, waste water treatment system installation, scrap system upgrade, roof replacement, assistance with plant expansion, "ClearVision" quality system installations and (retrofit on older machines), ergonomic improvements to existing processes, troubleshooting for automated die retrieval system (automation was having difficulties), review, and execution of repairs required for certification of warehouse racking, and executing various requirements to PSHR review on new production line, and various other projects as required. I had exposure to many different systems and processes, as well as learning about project budgeting and justification, negotiating costs with contractors/suppliers, balancing project requirements with production constraints, safety systems, electrical installations, CSA guarding requirements, and the importance of communicating between various divisions of the factory.
