Project focus was to migrate an existing legacy production Java Swing application to a browser-based Flex application using Spring Framework, Hibernate ORM, and Lucene in the middle tier; migrate the server environment from legacy physical Sun servers to virtual machines running RedHat/CentOS; migrate the back-end database from Sybase to PostgreSQL. Designed, documented, and implemented the overall development, testing, and deployment process. Worked with ScrumMaster to integrate agile principles and practices into the development process, selecting and integrating development tools, and instructing new team members on the process. Shared responsibility with system administrator and information system security officer (ISSO) for developing and implementing system security plan (SSP). Additional tasks included implementing a Lucene-based middle tier key word search service, porting legacy Perl scripts to Groovy, and providing “back-up” system administration. New system went live September 2013. The team concurrently provided help-desk call-in and sustainment support for the legacy production system during developing.
