My journey has evolved from guiding and mentoring teenagers as a teacher to helping employees as a union representative. Empowering people with knowledge and the tools to use that knowledge is a career-spanning passion of mine. My core competencies lie in advocacy, staff training, effective negotiation, and aiding members in understanding their rights on the job. I have a personal goal to enhance employee relations and foster a supportive workplace for our members. All people should be able to work in a safe and welcoming environment where they know that they are valued.In my current role, I have honed my skills as a lead negotiator, navigating complex discussions to advocate for our union members' rights and benefits. This has involved meticulous preparation, from team training to drafting precise contract language, all while managing records and conducting in-depth research. My dedication to these responsibilities reflects my commitment to upholding the values and interests of our members.Effectively working toward mutually acceptable outcomes for both employer and employee means understanding the processes and rules by which systems run. I have studied the mechanisms of employee relations at eight different employers of our members and learned the classification philosophy and practice of three employers. While occasional disputes progress through higher levels of the grievance/arbitration process, my goal is to assist employees in navigating their employers' systems to find amicable solutions.
