For more than 25 years, the Long Tom Watershed Council’s staff of scientists, biologists, and landscape experts have worked to build a culture of neighbors helping neighbors to do the right thing for land and water from the Coast Range to the Willamette River. I had the pleasure of helping to share the stories of their and our volunteers’ accomplishments and helping to widen the circle of engagement to improve the health of this community’s water and land.

CALC is thought to be the oldest continually operating social justice nonprofit in the Pacific Northwest, educating and organizing for peace, human dignity and social, racial and economic justice. I worked with board members in strengthening CALC's funding base and community engagement.

NC/RCAP was a nonprofit that worked to ensure affordable access to safe drinking water and sanitary waste disposal for all North Carolinians. During my five years at NC/RCAP we expanded the staff from two to 14, and we raised $54 million in funding (2023) for essential water, sewer, and solid waste infrastructure for some of the most underserved rural communities in the South. I also wrote a book published by NC/RCAP with funding from the NC General Assembly called "Considering the Alternatives: A Guide to Wastewater Management for Small Communities in North Carolina," which was distributed to thousands of local officials and community organizers. Our work was featured in national and statewide media and led to policy changes addressing the inequities in rural infrastructure. I conducted Congressional lobbying and public education on human rights and economic justice issues in Asia, the Pacific Islands, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Edited and wrote for the Office's newsletter.

Coordinated the national grassroots campaign against funding for the Trident D-5 Missile System. Wrote a magazine cover story on political developments in the Philippines.
