I have been programming since I was 8 years old. I started with C#, but have since expanded my horizons to many different languages. As early as 12, I had written a distributed web crawler, designed to run across multiple machines. By today, I have experimented with neural networks, written web applications, and understand many different technologies. Currently, I have been writing my own operating system in assembly and C for educational purposes. For me, one of the most satisfying areas of programming is developing clever workarounds to optimize the performance of an algorithm. For roughly the same time, I have experimented with electrical engineering. I find that this goes hand in hand with my programming experience, allowing me to design embedded systems and devices. I am comfortable using Cadsoft Eagle to design the PCBs I have made. I have a degree of familiarity with RF engineering, which, as a ham radio operator, will continue to expand. Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to experiment with FPGAs, although it greatly fascinates me, due to cost-related reasons.Physics has always been a passion of mine, although I haven't had the means to explore it like I have programming or EE. My peers can confirm I always seem to have multiple physics-related projects perpetually in design phase, such as a cyclotron and electrostatic particle accelerator. This is because I'm reluctant to purchase the equipment I need, such as a vacuum pump. Since the majority of my interests within physics relate to subatomic and quantum, I will always have a long list of equipment I want, but cannot financially justify. At some point, I would like to build my own functional CRT, which would become part of a computer I would design from scratch, and running an OS I had written myself.Today, these are still three large areas of my life, and why I decided to choose a double degree in Computer Science and Physics.
