He is a former Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and Australian Customs Service (ACS) National Marine Unit (NMU) Officer with a wealth of tactical, operational and strategic marine experience gained from military, civil service and private enterprise employment. He is the Executive Director / Operations Manager of BMSS (Aust) and President / CEO of BMSS (Philippines) for BMSS Group, a company providing services to commercial and governmental sector clients including risk assessment and mitigation strategies, policy and procedural development, operational planning and execution, and training analysis, design and delivery to meet their specific defence or security needs. As a contracted military officer he was instrumental in development and implementation of the Maritime Strategy for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi; he was the United Arab Emirates Coast Guard (UAECG) board member to the Government of Abu Dhabi Maritime Security Executive Committee. In addition he concurrently filled the roles of Commander of Training and Senior Adviser to the UAECG where he assisted the organisation with strategic, operational and tactical development, guidance and training to efficiently and effectively protect the integrity of the UAE maritime borders from infiltration and criminal compromise. As an ACS Officer, Steve was responsible for policy, procedural and operational concept development, as well as design and delivery of training to ACS Patrol Boat crew to meet maritime surveillance, interdiction and maritime border control requirements. He was honourably discharged from the RAN after 22 years service, as a Commander, with qualification is a Principal Warfare Officer – Above Water Warfare, having had ‘sea’ command and filling a number of management, policy and project director roles in the latter years.
