KropTek was formed by Steve in 2017 to advance the development of modular agri-technology and agri-systems. The company has a unique R&D facility in the UK that allows it to design and develop simple, robust and highly effective horticultural technology solutions. With its own manufacturing facility in Shenzhen, China, KropTek's international team combines decades of expertise in the field of LED grow lights and hydroponic grow systems.

PhytoLux Ltd was formed in 2011 in the UK to design, development, research and manufacture LED horticulture lighting. PhytoLux worked in partnership with Rothamsted Research, the longest running agricultural research station in the world, to conduct trials to determine the effect of LED lighting, and the manipulation of light, on various plant and food crops.These trials measured the different plant responses from those grown under traditional HPS lamps and PhytoLux developed a range of overhead, supplemental LED plant growth lights that were designed to achieve comparable growth rates for a variety of plant and crop types. In 2016 PhytoLux won the Four Oaks Technical Excellence Award, the Elektra Product of the Year Award and was named Small Business of the Year by CV Magazine.PhytoLux signed an exclusive licensing agreement with Plessey Semiconductors Ltd in April 2016. After a successful transition of the company, Steve parted-ways with Plessey to focus on new opportunities within the LED horticulture lighting industry.

As Technical Director for this SME which specialises in the supply and design of LED lighting systems into the commercial, industrial, and FM industries and the Public Sector, I was directly responsible for all technical aspects within the company including product design and development to meet end user requirements and achieve key energy and commercial solutions. Working closely across the entire team I liaised with the Commercial and Business Development Director, to identify key target markets and develop appropriate strategies to develop these. I was also responsible for generating new pipeline opportunities and direct sales on major projects and in account managing these projects technically within the UK.

I was the Business Development Director for a company specialising in building and facilities management and providing technical solutions including electrical design and systems for lighting, layout design, installation and maintenance. I was directly responsible for developing opportunities for the company, building business and personal relations with our existing customer base as well as new customers. I was also responsible for negotiating service contracts.

This was a 20 month contract reporting to board level, head of service and council members for the Project Management of the new Phoenix Centre construction project. I was responsible for implementing H&S, risk management, business continuity strategies, process and plans with over 60 staff reporting directly into myself. I brought the project in on time and within budget.

This was a small start-up business reaching a turnover per annum of £500k. I was responsible for all sales and business development and for managing 6 staff focusing on facilities management (hard [electrical] & soft services), environmental lighting, environmental electrical heating solutions and small fabrication works for local businesses. The business was sold in 2005.

Steve joined EH Industries Ltd as a Planning Assistant and developed his early career focusing on planning techniques, earned value methodology and budget planning. Through a series of promotions, he ultimately became responsible for project managing the integration of all projects and project phases for the EH101 helicopter programme. This included negotiation of key project elements with new clients.
