I was responsibile for re-coding a significant proportion of legacy code from FORTRAN / C to MATLAB as part of a programme to migrate from Solaris to Linux. The code-base involved functionality covering the entire spectrum of BODC business rules from data acquisition, quality control, archival and data dessemination. Development processes varied from reverse-engineering and re-factoring to developing new software by undertaking a complete life-cycle from requirements analysis to deployment.

Under the European Commission HUMOR (Human Interaction with Large Scale Coastal Morphological Evolution) project developed a simplified wave transformation model with a new abstracted description of cross-shore sediment transport beneath waves to model of the evolution of nearshore sand bar systems (PLYMPROF).

For a project funded by the NERC thematic programme Marine Productivity (MarProd: a UK contribution to the Global Ocean Ecosystem Dynamics project) developed a biophysical model of the Irish Sea to predict net horizontal movement of key taxa in order to investigate how vertical migration strategies may effect retention and dispersion of organisms.The work combined data analysis of an extensive 2-year ADCP survey, parametric modelling of krill (M. norvegica) behaviour, and simulation of advective trajectories using current fields generated by the POLCOMS baroclinic 3-D ocean model.
