Site Lead/Project Manager

Bridgewater Virginia/ Kandahar Afghanistan

This job was one of the most challenging and rewarding positions I have held. I was asked on a regular basis to operate outside my comfort zone and required to deliver positive results period.I managed the Saturn Arch Surveillance project in Afghanistan. My team performed at the highest level, in one of the most austere environments on the planet. I maximized system performance and On Station time in support of numerous operational tasking. As direct representative of the project, I was primarily responsible for the safety of assigned personnel and equipment as well as for interfacing with all onsite Government and Military representatives, the Government Flight Representative (GFR), the local Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) and other deployment site Garrison Staff, on a regular basis to include: Managing the administrative, operations, maintenance staff, and operational employment of Saturn Arch alongside The Department of Defense and the US Military. Built the Training syllabus and staff administrative requirements (i.e., housing, meals, medical, transportation, etc.) for all Sub contractor personnel. Worked closely with local Garrison customers and outside agencies to develop and execute mission requirements. Flew regularly on missions to maintain proficiency and mission awareness. Evaluated, created and executed plans to optimize mission effectiveness and prevent operational disruptions. Ensured all aircraft maintenance and safety inspections were conducted in accordance with FAA and applicable U.S. Military requirements. Evaluated the performance of all Project staff. Set up the Saturn Arch Sites in Bagram and Bastion/Leatherneck for 6 additional follow on Aircraft. Evaluated and Designed building and hanger infrastructure to meet the programs needs to support 8 aircraft and 300 personnel. Minimized the impacts of potential attrition by performing succession planning, cross training, and backup responsibilities for critical project resources.

Shuttle Ops

Johnson Space Center

I really enjoyed this opportunity as it allowed me to be an integral part of Space Shuttle Program (SSP) to provide safety and mission assurance engineering support in sustaining vehicle functions and operations processes. I supported Preliminary and Critical Design Reviews of SSP systems and hardware, providing engineering evaluations of the degree to which designs met Safety and Mission Assurance requirements, and documented discrepancies. Provided technical engineering support to NASA SSP Representatives to decision-making boards and panels. Reviewed and assessed safety analysis hazard reports, requirements, and supported program safety reviews. Assessed Failure Modes and Effects Analysis and Critical Items for Safety engineering accuracy and completeness. Performed technical review and assessment of operational SSP vehicle flight rules, and provide in-depth subsystem support to S&MA operations personnel. Worked all aspects of the Shuttle Transport System Mission Evaluation Room Activity, including the prompt and accurate processing of Mission Action Requests via the Johnson Space Center Sharepoint Server. Worked closely with International Space Station personnel to ensure manifest (TOX levels, storage, equipment issues) were completed safely and in accordance with all applicable flight rules. Successfully developed and implemented plans to dramatically improve Flight Rule Change Request (CR) Processing and Training in response to NASA customer concerns. One of my fondest accomplishments was working on the Hubble Space Telescope Mission which required the Atlantis’ astronauts to repair and upgrade the Hubble Space Telescope, conducting five spacewalks during the mission to extend the life of the orbiting observatory. Oddly enough one of the items I worked was a Physiology issue for which I had little experience. I conducted a lot of research and leveraged the knowledge of the team I worked with to come up with the safest and most reasonable solution.
