I am passionate about accelerating our transition to a circular economy through the use of advanced manufacturing technology and digital processes. My focus is on high-value, high-integrity sectors, maximising the economic, environmental, and social value of these products by designing and manufacturing and remanufacturing them to maximise their life. With 26 years of extensive experience in manufacturing and research environments, I provide technical expertise and leadership in materials and manufacturing, digitalisation and circular economy principles.I spent the first 16 years in various Manufacturing Engineering roles working across high integrity sectors, specialising in the development and manufacturing of complex products, particularly gas turbine engine components for the Aerospace sector. I had cradle-to-grave responsibility for all aspects of the engineering process for these components and led engineering teams to deliver new engine programmes for XWB and Trent1000-TEN, focusing on compressor and turbine commodities.Over the past decade, I have worked at the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS)/ Advanced Forming Research Centre. Here, I established and developed the Additive Manufacturing, Advanced Machining, and Remanufacturing teams into nationally recognised teams delivering impact for industry, before taking on the role of Director of NMIS’s new Digital Factory. As the Director of the Digital Factory at NMIS, I lead a dynamic team of 65 engineers and scientists. Our mission is to drive innovation and support manufacturing organisations across disciplines, including Digital Manufacturing, Design Engineering, Additive Manufacturing, Subtractive Manufacturing, Robotics and Metrology Systems. A key driver of our technology processes—and a personal passion—is developing solutions that enable circular economy. This involves maximising the life of existing products and designing new products to optimise circular opportunities, with digital technologies playing a crucial role.• Principal Investigator on ~£15 million of UKRI-funded projects• PI on £10.5m ‘Remake Value Retention Centre’• PI on £4.5 million ‘ReMake’ project with partners British Airways,Boeing,Howden Compressors,SSE-R, Renewable Parts,ATS, transitioning to circularity.• Fellow of the IMechE• Member of EPSRC Strategic Advisory Team for Manufacturing and Circular Economy• Member of ASTM F42 Standards Committee for additive manufacturing.• Advisory Group for the Value Retention report commissioned by IUK for CSR• HVMC Delivery and Impact Executive Member
