Stack: Ruby on Rails (JRuby, HTML, CSS, jQuery), PostgreSQL

Lead Ruby on Rails Developer and Manager of in-house Development Team (which we have grown from one to three Developers).As Lead Developer, I'm responsible for the application and its codebase. For over 5 years (initially at Kyan and now here in-house) I have built, maintained and upgraded features on BlueSky Education.Operating as a full-stack Developer, as well as Product Manager, I work on projects, feature requests, maintenance and bug fixes; from initial idea, through specification, into development and design, and finally to testing and deployment. This involves working with the Directors and other key Managers within the business to understand client and business needs, then to identify solutions, problem solve and ultimately build improvements to the platform. Problem solving is a key part of the role.Stack: Ruby on Rails (Ruby, HTML, CSS, jQuery), AWS, MySQLAs Head of Development, I review all work raised for the application, and am involved in spec'ing and planning the approach to tickets with the other members of my team. I lead the Daily Standup and Sprint Review meetings and keep on top of all code going into the application. I work with the Support Team to identify and address bug fixes as well as improvements to the platform that arise from client requests.

After completing the Makers Academy coding Bootcamp I joined Kyan, where I continued to learn to code working on a number of Ruby on Rails projects. For the first couple of years I combined the role as a Developer with a role as a Project Manager within the company. This allowed me to gain industry experience whilst continuing to learn the basics of web development - and at the same time being able to provide Kyan with previous experience of management.After a couple of years I left the role of Project Manager behind and became a full time Developer. I worked predominately on BlueSky Education (combining well with my prior experience as a Teacher). I spent my final 12 months at Kyan on secondment with BlueSky Education, before eventually moving across to build their first in-house development team (see next role).
