Working as part of the Miscanthus AI - Plant selection and breeding for Net Zero project, an EPSRC-funded collaboration between Aberystwyth University, the University of Lincoln and the University of Southampton. My work has focused on the use of Bayesian statistics, machine learning and artificial intelligence methods to predict genomic variation in Miscanthus plants from phenotypic data.

As part of the Physical Sciences Data Infrastructure (PSDI) academic network. My research has included investigating data storage and sharing within several subdisciplines of the physical sciences and within different UK Universities, and reviewing data availability in PhD theses and articles published in academic journals. I have also supported fellow researchers in the PSDI team on projects including database reconstruction and automated digitisation of physical lab notebooks.

Working as a researcher in the Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Intelligence for Automated Investigations for Scientific Discovery (AI3SD) network within the Chemistry department. My work has focused on developing resources to streamline the use of artificial intelligence techniques by researchers and industrial partners in the wider field of chemistry, including co-authoring academic papers on reinforcement learning and Bayesian optimisation.

Working with a team from the Social Sciences department on a project for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to estimate demographic characteristics of the Afghan refugee population in Iran. This involved building demographic models in R and projecting population structures through time under uncertain conditions. We later adapted our methodology to additionally estimate refugee demographics in Italy.

Working with the International Committee for the Red Cross to develop methodology to estimate the number of missing people in countries where a reliable figure does not exist. I developed techniques to categorise countries by provision of data on missing people and proposed methods to infer possible values and error bounds using multiple systems estimation and expert elicitation.

My work during this period included statistical analysis of financial data, and contributions to the development and maintenance of semi-automated tools for customer marketing and staff recruitment.

My work included designing and launching a new artificial intelligence chatbot, introducing a rolling data analysis program, and developing tools for more efficient recruitment and marketing. I also completed a course in Management and Leadership with the Ashorne Hill Management College and was awarded a CMI Level 5 Certificate.

Integrated PhD at the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Next Generation Computational Modelling, with support from the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl).Thesis title: “Uncertainty quantification and propagation through complex chains of computational models”. My work included theoretical research into the properties of linking Gaussian process emulators in a chain and the construction of modules in R and C++ to estimate the outputs of such chains under uncertain conditions. I also presented my research at conferences in the UK, Spain and Austria.
