I am incredibly excited by the opportunity of taking a more strategic approach to BIM within company like Ramage Young. After over three decades in the AEC Industry am very much looking forward to focusing more on BIM management and development, knowledge sharing, overseeing company standards, improving productivity, technical support and mentoring, alongside exploring emerging digital technologies and really driving change in the industry while taking a leading role in that process.

Joined Ramage Young as a Technical Associate with a focus on BIM management and development, knowledge sharing, overseeing company standards, alongside improving productivity, technical support and mentoring. As part of that transition I began working towards a Masters Degree (MSc) in Building Information Modelling Management at Middlesex University in London.

Since joining Ramboll in 2004, Stephen has acted as a Principal Technician on notable projects including Yas Island Ferrari Theme Park in Abu Dhabi, Whittingham Drive residential Development, SoCo Hotel Edinburgh, Drayton Park Residential Development, British Embassy Sana'a, Yemen, the New Forth Road Bridge Crossing, the New Forth Road Bridge Crossing Control Centre, and a new steel framed function suite for the deck of the Royal Yacht Britannia moored in Edinburgh's Western Harbour, as well as many school and university framework projects, including the £70 million PPP project in East Ayrshire which included 3 new build super schools, PFI project for Kent Schools, PFI project for Bassetlaw schools, and North Lancashire Council framework for 4 additional refurbishment and new build schools, the refurbishment of Appleton Tower for Edinburgh University, the new build Sheffield University Learning Resource Centre, and surveying and detailing of an extension to the Department of Plant Sciences at Cambridge University, and the new IDL extension to the North Terminal at Gatwick Airport. He is currently working on expansion plans to London Luton Airport.

Prior to joining Ramboll, Stephen worked for Halcrow Group, where he undertook the role of CAD Manager for the Leeds Office. His duties there included the overrunning and implementation of Halcrow CAD standards, customisation of AutoCAD software, testing new CAD related software, training staff and general CAD queries. His projects there mainly consisted of retail and housing Developments, together with Healthcare including developments in Grimsby, Turnstall, York, Hull, Selby and various other locations.

Prior to Halcow Group he worked for Arup in their Glasgow Office as a Senior Technician. Some notable projects from that time include the £11M lottery funded contemporary Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA) in Glasgow, the iconic Lomond Shores Visitor Attraction on the banks of Loch Lomond, Glasgow Harbour Project, and work for many Railtrack projects including Station Regeneration and Refurbishment to eighteen stations, refurbishment to low level stations including Argyle Street Station, Glasgow; Anderston Station and Queen Street Station, Edinburgh Waverley Improvement works, feasibility works for Glasgow Central Station New Platforms, and working on the £35M station Glasgow Central Station Regeneration Project which won the prestigious construction best practice award.

Kirkcaldy, United Kingdom

Prior to Arup, Stephen worked as a senior technician within the European office of the large American based Butler Building Systems – the world market leader of the design and manufacture of pre-engineered metal building systems. There he was responsible for taking various projects from the design stage, detailing connections, arrangement drawings for erection purposes, processing and parts listing steelwork and detailing steelwork for fabrication for all types of portal frame steel buildings for industrial and commercial purposes for clients throughout Europe, Hungary, Iceland, Romania and the Czech Republic.

Prior to joining Butler Building System, who had taken me on in July 1997 for a January start,I took a six months out, and worked Contract for RMJM. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, and got a chance to work on some prestigious projects both from a Structural and Architectural capacity.

Stephen began his working career in Babtie Group (now Jacobs), where he began his apprenticeship, and worked for almost 10 years in the Civil / Structural Division on a variety of marine / harbour structures and factor / office buildings. Some notable projects from his time there include Cill & Jamb Structure, Rosyth Royal Dockyard, The New Byre Theatre, St Andrews, Sentul Raya Square Cineplex in Kuala Lumpur, safety platforms at Clyde Submarine Base, Faslane, and 60 Hz trenches, refurbishment of docks, Rosyth Royal Dockyard.
