A significant part of what Pontem does is to provide Flow Assurance and Production Chemistry support to the oil and gas industry but Pontem are using the experience gained problem solving and data handling in this area to support a variety of other business, industry, and scientific professionals in other industries to access and create context around the problems we must solve. Our embedded approach combines data and discipline, generating knowledge, in a collaborative working environment.

Leading the Infinity office, operating as a hub for the London based Energy market. Focussed on Systems Engineering, Flow Assurance, Production Chemistry and Operations support.

• Primary role as Flow Assurance Manager on Sea Lion• Secondary roles of Internal Interface Manager and Production System Manager.• Production Chemistry and Flow Assurance SME for Premier Oil plc. As part of this participated in industry PWRI and HPHT scale forums as Premier Oil representative.• Managed all flow assurance related issues for the Sea Lion development, including the supervision of work performed by external flow assurance consultants for all phases of the Sea Lion development.• Created and managed flow assurance scopes for all phases of the Sea Lion project.• Introduced new technologies into the Sea Lion Project and Premier Oil.• Worked on the development of Premier Oil’s Carbon Capture and Sequestration Strategy and Sea Lion’s Intelligent Operations requirements.• Provided subsea and process engineering support to both the Sea Lion subsea and FPSO teams.• Identified production chemical requirements for the Sea Lion development• Worked with the Sea Lion Subsurface team regarding well operations, well testing and formation damage issues as part of my Production Systems Manager role.• Participated as third-party reviewer in Peer Reviews and Workshops for Premier Oil’s Catcher, Huntingdon and Tolmount developments.• Provided flow assurance and production chemistry support for Premier Oil’s UK, Vietnam, Norway, Brazil and Indonesian Business Units resulting in significant OPEX savings.

• Managed a Flow Assurance team consisting of up to 18 Flow Assurance Consultants and the day-to-day operations of the MSiKenny London office.• Provided Production Chemistry support for the global MSiKenny organisation.• Developed Scopes of Work for numerous flow assurance studies looking at both hydraulic and fluid chemistry requirements.• Senior Technical Consultant for the Flow Assurance studies for two East African onshore Waxy Pipelines with Wax Appearance temperatures >60oC and Pour Points >30oC.• Project Lead on the BP Angola Greater Plutonio Expansion flow assurance analysis of both production and water injection systems• Provided technical support for BP Azerbaijan Shah Deniz Stage 2 gas and condensate export pipelines steady state and transient analysis• Evaluated Asphaltene deposition propensity for the Thang Long JOC

• HOCL Flow Assurance Focal Point for Liwan and Liuhua Deepwater Developments during FEED.• Development and review of both flow assurance, production chemistry and corrosion studies for the Liwan project.• Developed strategy for the use of a Production Management Simulator in the Liwan development.• Developed a chemical testing and contracting strategy for the Liwan development• Worked with FEED contractor’s Process Engineering Team to identify a suitable MEG regeneration and reclamation systems for use in HOCL’s Liwan development.• Worked closely with the Liwan Subsurface and Operations teams to ensure all flow assurance issues are fully integrated within the project.

• Flow Assurance Focal Point• Main driving force behind establishing WEL Production Chemistry and Flow Assurance capabilities from a single person to a team of six chemists and engineers• Senior Technical Consultant for the Browse, Pluto and Sunrise deepwater gas developments, including extensive involvement in developing design strategies for wax, corrosion, hydrates, scale, chemical testing and injection issues.• Senior Technical Consultant for issues associated with the use of MEG regeneration and reclamation systems for WEL’s 3 large gas developments, Browse, Pluto and Sunrise. This included being the Focal Point for IFE JIP evaluating the impact of formation water and solids production on MEG regeneration facilities.• Provided production chemistry and flow assurance support to existing WEL operating units, including involvement in water injection and separation issues associated with API20 black oils, inorganic scaling, hydrates, bacteria contamination of process systems, corrosion inhibitor performance and compatibility issues, OIW quality issues, etc.• Performed Scaling Tendency calculations using Scalechem software package to determine the impact of inorganic scales in new and existing WEL developments.• After an extensive testing and analysis campaign identified the reason for the fouling of the condensate stabilizer at the Karatha Gas Plant, which prevented $ millions of lost revenue due to lost production.• Project leader for Relative Permeability Modifier (RPM) research project.

• The development and maintenance of both production chemistry/optimization and flow assurance programs to maximize oil production and recovery from West Seno, Indonesia’s first deepwater development.• Problems solved include metallic soap stabilized emulsions, sand control and cleaning, hydrate inhibition, wax mitigation, produced water quality, corrosion mitigation, chemical management, asphaltene control, formation damage and well stimulation, well completion fluids, riser insulation, and inorganic scale inhibition.• Gave guidance and leadership to national employees to deploy flow assurance and production optimization measures.

• Main Shell representative of “Hydrate Form”, an industry wide forum created to discuss hydrate issues relevant to the oil and gas industry.• Developed novel hydrate control strategies for Shell onshore gas fields in Western Siberia and China and offshore gas fields in Malaysia, UK and the Netherlands.• Development of integrated Flow Assurance solutions as part of the Shell Global Solutions Flow Assurance team.
