My clinicial work—almost exclusively with older people—extends over 30 years and a range of settings and in community-based practice for much of the last twenty years. This experience includes periods as a senior clinician in multi-disciplinary regional and metropolitan community services, provision of consultation-liaison services and management of a stand-alone specialist psycho-geriatric residential care facility as well as educator in university and hospital programmes. My community development has centred on the explication of mental disorder to the broader health community and the production of learning materials that seek to demystify and destigmatise mental disorder.My practice has focused on the broad range of disorders that affect older people and in particular high prevalence mental disorders that often occur concurrently with somatic health disorders.
