Managing Director - North America RefiningExxonmobil Jun 2014 - Jul 2016UsSteve was responsible for the overall financial (P/L) and operating performance of Exxon Mobil's North America refining business, which included 10 refineries in the US and Canada with 2.2 million barrels per day of distillation capacity. This portfolio was the largest refining business in North America. Steve was also on the board of Chalmette Refining Joint Venture and was a member of the API / AFPM Process Safety Committee and the API Refining Subcommittee. Steve restructured the North America downstream business by investing in domestic crude logistics / refining capacity and divesting two refineries (Chalmette Louisiana & Torrance California). He chaired the global Downstream / Chemical / Midstream Safety, Security, Health and Environment Leadership Team. He was on the Corporate Safety, Security, Health, Environment Advisory Committee. He implemented a labor strategy that successfully negotiated improved contracts with the national union (USW) at Exxon Mobil's US refineries. Steve's refinery portfolio attained 1st quartile financial and operating performance results in North America industry benchmarks. -
Managing Director - Europe, Middle East, Africa And Asia Pacific RefiningExxonmobil Jul 2010 - Jun 2014UsSteve was responsible for the overall financial and operating performance of Exxon Mobil's refining business in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific (EMEAAP ). At the time, Exxon Mobil had ownership interest in 15 refineries with distillation capacity of 2.8 million barrels per day in 13 countries. Exxon Mobil was the second largest refining company in Europe and the largest international oil company refiner in the EMEAAP region. Steve was on the boards of joint ventures in Saudi Arabia (SAMREF) and Germany (MiRO) and also European industry boards (FuelsEurope, Europia, CONCAWE). Steve successfully merged the seperate Europe, Middle East and Africa and the Asia Pacific refining organizations into a more effective / efficient single Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific organization. He improved financial results in Europe through development of new investments (Antwerp Coker, Rotterdam Lubes, Slagen) and restructuring existing refining capacity (Fawley UK, Gravenchon and Fos France, Trecate and Augusta, Italy). Steve was the most senior downstream executive in the EMEAAP region and took a leadership role in developing international employees for senior management roles. The European refining portfolio had 1st quartile operating and financial performance in industry safety and financial performance benchmarks. . -
Vice President - Global Planning And Projects - Refining & SupplyExxonmobil Nov 2006 - Jul 2010UsSteve had overall responsibility for planning and budget for Exxon Mobil's global refining, supply and logistics business. This included: strategic planning, portfolio management planning, technology / research strategy, annual business planning and regulatory / public policy planning. He also overall responsibility (project screening through start-up) for Exxon Mobil Refining & Supply Company's $2+ billion annual global refining, logistics and distribution investment program. Steve was on the board of the Fujian Refining and Petrochemical joint venture (China). Steve managed the largest global capital expense budget in Exxon Mobil refining history. He also developed a comprehensive strategic review of the global refining / downstream assets to identify long range investment / divestment opportunities. He was involved with public and regulatory policy, conducting the initial study for the Corporation's algae biofuels research program. Steve also chaired the annual refining research program development process. -
