My research is focused on both physical education teaching and sports coaching, and have recently been involved in a project with colleagues where we developed and validated a multi-level computerised coach behaviour analysis system which we have subsequently designed an iPad application for (see www.axiscoaching.com). Using this tool I have investigated coaching behaviour within the microstructure of practice. My other main area of interest is Game Centred Approaches to teaching and coaching games, such as the Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) pedagogical approach and, allied to this, the development of off-the-ball skills and decision-making in sport and physical education through the use of this approach. In addition, I have maintained an interest in ethics and ethical development in sport, and co-edited a book on this topic published by Routledge in their Physical Education and Youth Sport series.Service:Service to the College of Physical Activity and Sport Science (i.e. committee memberships etc.). I am also currently the Secretary for the TGfU Special Interest Group, a global movement which promotes the use of game-centered pedagogies in physical education and youth sport. In this role I have been involved in various projects within this role which include website development and helping organise the TGfU Seminar at the 2010 AIESEP conference in La Coruna, Spain. Finally, I am on the editorial board for the Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy Journal and review papers for a number of other journals including Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, the European Physical Education Review and the International Journal of Sports Science and Coaching.

This role involved supporting and mentoring regional coaches in their delivery of hockey sessions at Junior Regional Performance Centers. The role additionally entailed working with players at regional and national high performance centers in order to support their development in their quest to attain the highest levels of performance in hockey. It further provided me with the opportunity to attend National Age Group Training Camps. For example in July 2012 I worked as assistant coach to the boys and girls U18 groups to a training camp in Germany. In 2012-13 I was then appointed as an assistant coach with the England U16 Boys.
