Commencing initially as Estimating Director, Stephen was targeted by Taylor to refine and reform the preconstruction team and processes to facilitate the Boards strategic objective of growing the business sustainably into the 2nd Tier. This was achieved through continuous improvement of all preconstruction processes, team building and innovation. In Stephen's first 5 years, annual turnover increased from $180m to $650m sustainably and profitably. Real tender strike rates were achieving levels of 1 in 3.As part of the Senior Management Team, Stephen had responsibility for all facets of Preconstruction, as well as pipeline and overhead forecasting and budget setting, business development processes, opportunity 'Go/No-go' rigour, cost escalation monitoring and strategies for continuous business improvement.The Taylor Board recognised Stephen's ability to provide its clients with further value during the bid process and asked Stephen to take on the role of Head of Cost and Value. Forming a Value Management Team comprising architectural, structural, services, cost and construction thinkers, Stephen worked alongside the bid teams to offer value adding alternatives to clients, unlocking and maximising project opportunities.Some of Stephen's key project outcomes include:- Chatswood Place: Negotiating Taylor's first $100m+ project - Data Centres: Securing a continuous workbook with the world's largest technology providers.- Boomerang Tower: Negotiating Taylor's first 40 storey construction project at Sydney Olympic Park.- Sydney Opera House: Bid leading and securing the successful Western Renewal and Concert Hall project.- AMRF First Building: Post-tender negotiation for this milestone project in the new City of Bradfield.

As Probuild's first non-Victorian employee, Stephen was fundamental in the company's first step to becoming a national tier 1 contractor. As one of a small group of shareholders and working as 2IC to three State Managers, Stephen provided a consistency to the company's establishment, consolidation and growth in NSW.In addition to his Estimating Manager responsibilities, Stephen was involved in all forms of business establishment tasks, including marketing to create a NSW profile, business development, staff recruitment and development, and building local stakeholder relationships. Significant achievements include:- Surry Hill Library & Community Centre: One of Sydney's first ESD credentialled public spaces.- Parliament Square Hobart: Successful PPP bid to Tasmanian Government for development consortium.- The Gehry Building UTS: Shortlisted ECI Tenderer following a solo-written EOI.- Government Accreditations: Procured locally for NSW, ACT, QLD and WA Governments.- Various award-winning projects across multiple sectors.

Selected to be arguably the youngest Tier 1 contractor Estimating Manager at 29yo, Stephen formed part of the Management Team in Victoria for Walter Constructions (previously Concrete Constructions & Lewis Constructions). Key highlights:- Restructuring of Preconstruction processes- Team building- Negotiation of State-wide supply agreements- Pipeline forecasting and implementation of work-winning strategies- Bid management and contract negotiation across all sectors including health, commercial, mixed use, justice, hospitality, etc.

Joining Australia's oldest commercial contractor, Stephen was part of Sydney's formidable Cost Planning and D&C Tender estimating team, bidding on major Tier 1 construction projects. Of particular note:- The Forum, St Leonards turn-key project - Finance cost modelling liaising with financing consortium of seven European banks.- Philippines House (Embassy) and Travelodge City Central redevelopment - Negotiating Cost Planner- Radisson Hotel Sydney - Developed and refined internal bid systems- Selected to lead development and international role out of a cutting-edge corporate intranet

Formative years in the CBD boom of the late 80's and early 90's, working with Sydney's largest QS firm on Sydney's largest projects. First principles estimating, contract administration and emerging IT development and implementation. Exceptional projects included:- Sydney 2000 Olympics bid - Shangri-La Hotel (previously ANA Hotel), as well as the Sheraton on the Park and Ramada Renaissance hotels.- MLC Centre Upgrade (incl US Embassy) project cost audit.
