When Stephen began to cross-train into the Oracle System Administration toolkit, I assisted him in the learning process. He has been very unfortunate over the past 5 years, falling victim to more than one 'down-sizing' exercise as businesses have faced global economic pressures. After one such occasion, I introduced Stephen to the management of the company I had joined after leaving Oracle in 2008, and the Business Development manager who met with him fed back to me with great praise for Stephen. For myself, I have always been struck by Stephen's depth of technical knowledge, his ability to 'roll his sleeves up and get stuck in' when any technical difficulty presents itself, and the fact that he is clearly a driven, hard-working and dedicated performer who is inspired by results. And over and above all of this, he is a really nice guy with a well balanced sense of humour, a very generous spirit and the solidity of a lovely and supportive family behind him.
