My entire career has been focused on how to solve problems in creative ways. This began early in my career while I was a Research Engineer for Avery Dennison. While at Avery, I was able to thoroughly learn and help to develop adhesive & silicone coated products. I also developed and automated lab & production test equipment to ensure the quality of the products. After Avery, I moved into the process roller industry. If it is manufactured continuously, it moves over some type of process roller. I continued to design, fabricate, wire, and program increasingly complicated equipment to fully quantify the geometry of our process rollers to a precision of 0.00001 inch. This inspection equipment helped my company become a leading supplier of precision rubber rollers. During this time I also started speaking at AIMCAL & CEMA conferences and publishing papers.As the lead implementer for our company’s LEAN manufacturing program, I was responsible for enabling the changes necessary to accomplish our goals in this process. I helped to supervise the cleanup & organizing of our facility. I redesigned the manufacturing layout of our 20,000 square foot facility in order to facilitate cellular workstations which boosted our through-put by 30% over the previous work flow. As a result of the many changes to our manufacturing facility & processes, our lead time for several of our product lines went from 15 working days down to 5 working days. Our customer returns went from approximately 3% of units produced down to less than 1%. Finally, our complete and on-time orders shipped (COTS) rate went from 50% up to 90%. To this day, I am responsible for conducting the daily GEMBA meeting (production related issues), administering the weekly KPI meeting and supervising our continuous improvement projects.
