The domestic healthcare market is changing in two fundamental ways. The center of gravity for the system is moving from facilities to the web and payers are shifting to from fee-for-service reimbursement paradigm to value based care. To manage this shift we need to develop both the future tools and business models that will address our needs. To that end I have spent my entire career focused on advising, building, and operating solutions to address this problem. This ranges from building strategies for the second largest integrated payer and provider system to advising pre-revenue start-ups with go-to-market MVPs. Currently, I focus on addressing social and economic development for an at risk community in Pittsburgh. This hyper-local approach to repurposing a closed hospital to build new businesses, create jobs, and address social determinants of health issues for the immediate community is the key to addressing the rising healthcare costs across the country. The project marries the public-private philosophy with local non-profits and foundations to impact communities that suffered from economic downturn (e.g., the death of steel). This model for revitalization and rejuvenation of closed infrastructure will become the national approach to dealing with community health needs when local facilities shutter their operations.I am a seasoned executive with deep technical understanding of the integrated business models for payer and provider. I leverage that expertise to advise companies in the healthcare and life-science industry; invest in businesses and coach founders in AlphaLab Health (Healthcare accelerator); manage the operations of multi-use building; teach health economics; and create new business opportunities in healthcare.
