About Stephen J. Cox

I am currently a Royal Society University Research Fellow in the Department of Chemistry, University of Cambridge. I previously held a personal research fellowship from the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851. My current research is focused on understanding the statistical mechanics of electrolyte solutions, making use of the latest developments in computational chemistry. I also supervise undergraduates in statistical mechanics.I was previously a post-doctoral research fellow at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and UC Berkeley, where I investigated the theory of ion solvation. I also gave lectures on statistical mechanics to senior undergraduates.In 2014 I completed my PhD in computational chemistry at UCL, where my main research focus was trying to understand how surfaces promote ice nucleation. Prior to my PhD, I obtained my MSci and BA from the University of Cambridge in Natural Science.
