About Stephen Jacobs
Stephen Jacobs (PhD, Dip Tchg, BA) is a senior lecturer in the School of Nursing, the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, The University of Auckland. He has started and leads the Supporting Nurses to Thrive Learning and Research Network. The Research Programme take a participatory mixed-methods multiple case design approach to work with nurses, nurse educators and nurse leaders/managers to develop and implement new ways to manage and support the workforce. The key concepts involved include the Thriving at Work model, Appreciative Inquiry and principles of co-design.Stephen also teaches on the Leadership and Management for Quality Health Care programme. He has supervised over 65 PhD, Masters and BNurs(Honours) students in their research. His previous history includes 6 years from 2000 till November 2006 at the Ministry of Health as a Senior Advisor in the Health of Older People Team in the Sector Policy Directorate, and then as Team Leader, Primary Health Care Implementation and Delivery in the Clinical Services Directorate. Prior to working at the Ministry of Health, he was for five years Manager, Services for Older People, Wesley Wellington Mission, managing a community service, a home care service, two rest homes, and two continuing care hospitals.
