    Designed and built an automated reporting framework using Perl and the Template Toolkit. The goal was to provide a "push button" solution to the company's existing practice of manually creating monthly and quarterly investment reports for clients. Software was created to pull data from the DFA database, convert it into an intermediate XML representation using Formatting Objects markup, and feed this XML document to an FO renderer that produces a final PDF file for printing. By adding code to create on-the-fly SVG graphics, charting was also added to the final reports in a lightweight, scalable fashion. The FO renderer chosen for the project was XEP from RenderX. The delivered reporting system will save DFA perhaps 1/3+ million dollars per year.

    At Oversee.net I rescued the web frontend, and database backend, of a poorly-designed business lead tool based on the daily mining of information from DNS zone files and the scraping of landing pages on a regular basis for approximately 1 million domains. Implemented the automated conversion of flat-file web search data provided by online advertising companies into relational database form, complete with a scoring metric to enable "profitable data" to be gleaned from the results. Ported the company's keyword optimization code for Domain Sponsor from a non-scalable memory intensive PHP script to a scalable Perl-based set of lightweight modules capable of handling 60 days worth of view and click data for a 1 million domains, on a daily basis. Wrote an HTML::Mason framework to allow the rapid development of complex administrative web applications while also incorporating several distinct business units under the same umbrella.
