Broad and far-reaching project to analyse the operational efficiency and technical compliance of the Isle of Wight NHS Trust Estates department covering all NHS facilities cross the island. Created a wide-ranging improvement project spanning cultural aspects, organisational optimisation, compliance targets, personnel development, technical improvement and culminating in the implementation of a Trust-wide CAFM system.

Modernisation and transformation of a specialist engineering and manufacturing company with a global market and diverse product portfolio. Initially in the factory automation, explosive ordnance disposal and naval defence sectors, this was streamlined to fit Group strategic aims. During the period a strong brand was created with a customer focus and the full product range updated and improved. Significant focus was required on retained knowledge base, cultural and process improvement, including implementation of a new BIS. Flagship projects included bomb disposal robotic systems, secure communications for the QE2 class aircraft carriers and a £10m contact lens manufacturing equipment contract.

I provided consultancy support to technology companies, advising clients in many areas including technology, market development and corporate strategy. With a wide range of experience in the aerospace, defence, marine and energy sectors I support the creation of clear road maps that link technical and commercial objectives, providing hands-on intervention when requested. Clients include high-tech start-ups through to large corporates looking to progress specific new technologies. Projects include advice on technical programme de-risking, business sales development, collaboration strategies, funding options and marketing strategy.

As a founder and shareholder I provided advice and guidance to the executive management team, developing a recruitment and contracting company that complimented the strategy at Stirling Dynamics. The company grew very significantly year-on-year before being acquired by Morson Projects Ltd.

As Managing Director I created a strategy which grew the company from 30 to 150 specialist staff, created core intellectual property in a diverse range of niche areas and established a global reputation for both products and services, all with minimal financial support. The company infrastructure was evolved from very basic, to compete and win technically challenging contracts on a number of key platforms, becoming a key supplier to primes such as Airbus, BAE SYSTEMS, Lockheed Martin and Bombardier. The company retained and developed its reputation for R&D excellence and continued to invest heavily into new technologies in many sectors including energy, waste management and marine sectors. Awards were won for technical excellence and in 2013 Stirling was recognised as Top 25 Highest Growth Potential SMEs in the UK. As part of the diversification and research strategy I became involved in the management and support of many technology start-ups and experienced in the funding and growth of disruptive technology enterprises.

After many years involvement in the Seattle-based activities of Stirling (which included periods of management in the early 2000's) I was formally appointed VP as a new office was established in Orlando to service the training and simulation business. This entity was organised as a separate Florida-registered corporate entity in December 2014.

After managing the successful sale of active control intellectual property to BAE SYSTEMS in 2000 Stirling continued to win significant programmes supporting both flight test and simulation/training programmes. Notable examples were programmes with Bombardier, Sikorsky, DLR and Embraer some of which resulted in technology 'world firsts'. My role expanded to cover all activities in the submarine and aerospace consultancy sectors, managing resource across the company. Significant programmes won included the Astute Class submarine autopilot algorithms and Airbus Flight Physics engineering services support framework.

Initially employed to add manufacturing experience to the active controls team, I eventually led the programme to provide full authority active fly-by-wire control systems to the AH-64 Apache under contract with DARPA and Boeing Helicopters. Other novel programmes included VAAC Harrier and research programmes with NASA on the Blackhawk and 757 flying laboratory amongst many others.

Working on a variety of multinational projects for life support systems including NBC equipment through to crew coolant systems I transferred through the engineering, production and project management departments. As a project engineer and then project manager I was posted to Los Angeles and Montreal.
