I am a teacher of science and maths at Ferryhill Business & Enterprise College having achieved a first class honours degree in Applied Biology, a PGCE (biology specialism) and attaining QTS. Within my specialism I have an excellent broad based knowledge of biological phenomena including biochemistry, biotechnology, microbiology, biodiversity, invertebrate physiology and molecular biology. On completion of my degree I have obtained a wide set of laboratory skills including assay testing (screening bioactive compounds for antimicrobial properties against pathogenic bacteria such as MRSA and Rhodococcus equi), DNA extraction, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) whilst maintaining good lab practice and safe working. Through this experience within the laboratory environment I have developed key skill areas such as planning, organisation and team working. Since being in the education sector, I have broadened my specialism, branching out into teaching chemistry, physics and maths teaching the Exploring Science Working Scientifically, AQA and Math Links schemes of work.
