About Stephen Kaba
As a post-doctoral and senior research scientist with over 14 years of experience leading pre-clinical translational research and vaccine development, I am ready to tackle clinical trial projects. I have demonstrated expertise in designing and administrating core vaccine research, experimentation, and analysis for organizations such as the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Society of Microbiology as well as the International Livestock Research Institute and the Wageningen University and Research Center. I have served as Senior Research scientist and, most recently, made significant contributions to the study of “GMP Production and Clinical Trial of a Self-Assembling Protein Nanoparticle and Toll-like Receptor Liposomal MPLA Adjuvanted Malaria Vaccine,” (EMBED LINK).Furthermore, I possess a MS in Biotechnology and Ph.D. in Molecular Virology from Wageningen University and am a peer-reviewed published author in several scientific journals.

Microbiologist/Principal Investigator
In my current role, I guide research and project progress, including mentoring and training junior staff, spearheading pre-clinical research strategies and resource allocation, and general laboratory management. I leverage my familiarity with animal handling practices and data collation, analysis, and organization to generate clear and concise information and written documents. Furthermore, I use my leadership skills to ensure that projects move forward. My focus is on “GMP Production and Clinical Trial of a Self-Assembling Protein Nanoparticle and Toll-like Receptor Liposomal MPLA Adjuvanted Malaria Vaccine.” For further project details: http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.vaccine.2017.02.040JDuring my time here thus far, I drove FMP014 into pipeline for Phase 1a and 2a Clinical Trial in 2018. In addition to serving as a leader, I have also effectively designed and performed studies of cellular and humoral immune responses in small animals to study malaria vaccines.

Scientific Director
Immunologist/Molecular Biologist, Leader: Self-Assembling Proteion Nanoparticle (Sapn) Project
As a Project Leader and Immunologist, I held bottom-line accountability for scientific research execution as a government-contracted molecular biologist working on developing a malaria vaccine against P. falciparum by leveraging SAPN technology. I also co-procured a $7.2M grant from Joint-Warfighter Malaria Research Programme (JWMRP) for the advancement and manufacturing of proteins and adjuvant components of a malaria vaccine.
Post-Doctoral Fellow
I performed advanced research as a post-doctoral fellow for the National Research Council/National Academies at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, including the design and prototyping of a malaria vaccine based on SAPN technology. I trained and mentored several junior scientists, technicians, and students. I effectively garnered a $2.5M NIH grant to further develop the malaria vaccine prototype for humans after successes with prototype in mice. I successfully designed all vaccine constructs amplified in bacterial system and scaled up by fermentation, purified by chromatography (HPLC), refolded to produce nanoparticles, characterized by DLS, Electron microscopy, Western blot, ELISA, ELISPOT and ICS.Moreover, I vaccinated mice and NHP in addition to analyzing vaccine immune responses, leading to published data in peer-review journals.
