In a small shop in Marrakesh, a man asked me where I was from and what I did for work. The question lingers in my mind as one that I still struggle to answer. On that day, I was working with a group of young adults to explore educational opportunities that might connect across the stories of Islam, Judaism and Christianity in Spain and Morocco. But my quick response to him was that I was a writer. Far easier to explain. And because I spoke some Spanish, he assumed I was from Spain. Eventually, I admitted to being from "somewhere close to New York."My work and life is shaped by people, questions, faith, doubt and all kinds of communities. I love to work to cultivate learning environments and to work to create healthy communities moving toward things that are honest, beautiful and good. Depending on the day, I might respond by saying that I'm a writer, a teacher, a consultant, an administrator, a pastor, an editor, a coach. I believe in work/life integration so I look for opportunities to work with diverse and dedicated people, open to possibilities even when they seem impossible. I love to learn. I love to seek. I love to dream. And I love to wonder/wander.
