Building Markets has won numerous awards and distinctions for its innovative business model, including from the Skoll Foundation, 2010 G20 SME Finance Challenge and the 2013 Forbes Philanthropy Summit.Stephen's responsibilities:* Pioneered, developed and currently lead Building Markets' global "Access to Finance" practice, which provides consultative and innovative capital solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises in developing countries to improve their access to a various kinds of capital.* Oversaw the establishment of two Access to Finance country programs in Africa (Liberia and Mozambique), and continues to oversee all aspects of these programs, including strategy development, team building, operations, partnership development, budgeting, growth plans, etc.* Program has assisted over 350 small businesses and facilitated over $12 million in credit in these two countries in its first year of operations.* Led practice's expansion efforts with investors and donors. * Spearheaded various finance solution concepts for the organization, including equity/mezzanine capital, invoice factoring, partial credit guarantees and other interventions; co-developed joint finance/market linkages program concepts, involving strong technical assistance components.

* Worked on 9 deals, including buy-side and sell-side M&A, leveraged buyouts and debt financings; prepared valuation and merger analyses, acquisition firepower analyses and other client presentations and materials.* Select transaction experience:o Advised a large, European industrial company on its $30bn takeover attempt of a US-based industrial company - Managed the sum-of-the-parts public comparable company valuation model; the financing risk and ratings assessment; and other analyses.o Advised large defense company on its potential $3bn acquisition of an aerospace supplier - Prepared valuation and merger model using buyer estimates and public sources in preparation for a fairness opinion; developed the financing model for financing risk and ratings assessment.o Lead bookrunner on Dynacast’s $350mm bridge facility/high-yield notes in July 2011. - Assisted in writing the S-4 Filing; owned and managed company model for financing risk and ratings assessment; developed assumptions based on diligence with management; developed credit positioning and industry-related content for the rating agency presentation.

* Created additional functionality in baseline model of financial projections for a $325 million loan program through local banks for mortgage financing in the West Bank.* Researched the key players, trends and issues of the Pakistani energy sector for senior OPIC management prior to due diligence trip in country.* Created a presentation designed to attract interest in investing in Afghanistan by potential overseas investors.

* Contributed to key deliverables and co-managed process for Kennametal’s $126mm equity follow-on offering.* Developed several pitches and marketing documents. Topics include: hostile takeover defense, potential acquisition target analysis and shareholder returns analysis comparing a client and its competitors.

* Developed investment recommendations on five potential early stage opportunities based on assessment of business model, industry trends, fit with investment strategy and preliminary valuation.* Synthesized global education sector research for the purpose of shaping current investment strategy.

* Developed an interloper analysis on a key competitor while advising Manitowoc on its $2.7 billion acquisition of Enodis.* Created several analyses while advising an appliance manufacturer on a potential acquisition of a $2-3 billion appliance competitor. Analyses include: raw material pricing trends and industry organic sales growth.* Developed a safety products and security services pitch for a large cap industrial conglomerate.

* Managed cross-border process in the post-merger integration of a $7 billion Top 3 Japanese pharmaceutical company to define the operating model of a new 10-person Decision Analysis group.* Created, pitched and sold the business case for a new Business Analyst group for a Top 10 pharmaceutical company. Staffed and managed 6-member team that executed up to 7 concurrent projects for our client.* Designed the Resource Management capability for the Japan Division of a $19 billion Top 10 pharmaceutical company.* Earned early promotion to Consultant after one year instead of typical two to three year timeframe.

* Performed divestiture analysis of Internet subscriber base (approximately 120,000 customers).* Managed $90 million P&L of the Internet services division, resulting in a 20% increase in gross margin.* Maintained company's financial model in ATX’s efforts to recapitalize $600 million of debt.
