Stephen Lerner is global chair of the Squire Patton Boggs Restructuring & Insolvency Practice Group. In September, 2022, Stephen was named one of the Top 100 Global Restructuring & Turnaround Professionals by the Global M&A Network. He has an extensive national and cross-border restructuring practice in which he represents debtors, committees of unsecured creditors, secured and unsecured creditors, equity interest holders and acquirers of troubled businesses in Chapter 9 municipal restructurings, Chapter 11 reorganization cases, Chapter 15 cases and out-of-court restructurings throughout the United States, Europe, South America, India and the United Arab Emirates.Stephen served as the Examiner in the precedent setting Purdue Pharma Chapter 11 case. Stephen has led the representation of clients in the Chapter 9 bankruptcy of the City of Detroit and the Chapter 11 reorganizations of Ferrellgas, Blackjewel, Hartshorne Mining, FirstEnergy Solutions, BJ Services, Atna Resources, Midway Gold, Optima Specialty Steel, Veris Gold, AmFin Financial, Station Casinos, Lehman Brothers, WorldCom, Chrysler, Enron and EaglePicher, among many others.Stephen is a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy and has served as Chair of the Board of Regents, Director of the Board, 6th Circuit Regent and currently as Chair of the International Committee of the College. In 2020, Stephen was elected a conferee of the National Bankruptcy Conference. He currently serves as Vice President - International and Member of the Executive Committee of the American Bankruptcy Institute. Stephen also is a member of the International Insolvency Institute. Since 2009, Stephen has been Star-rated by Chambers USA, the highest ranking bestowed. The Squire Patton Boggs Restructuring Team, led by Stephen, was named 2020 USA Restructuring Firm of the Year - Middle Markets by the Global M&A Network. In 2022, the Squire team representing Ferrellgas, also led by Stephen, was named Turnaround of the Year (Large) by the Global M&A Network.
