Chief Executive Officer
CurrentIn December 2021, after 39 years as a specialist in Clinical Nutrition (the use of highly complex intravenous nutrition solutions to feed seriously ill patients in whom acquired malnutrition had become a major impediment to survival), I retired from the practice of medicine. I am now the full time CEO of The Chess School, Inc, an educational software company that publishes the Think Like A King® School Chess Software System. This is the ever-more-advanced version of a suite of tools I’d initially created almost 30 years ago to help schools and families use chess to help develop critical thinking skills in children. Oddly enough, this work grew directly from my medical specialty. Just as providing critically important missing nutrients to malnourished adults often proved lifesaving, after I started a chess club at my local elementary school, I quickly saw that, when properly applied, chess actually becomes the ‘nutrition for kid's brains’ that can help them develop the Executive Function skills so fundamentally important for success in school and in life, and to do so in a way that more traditional educational programs do not. The Think Like A King® software I initially created to help run that chess club has now been used to run chess programs in thousands of schools in the US and around the world.
