The Coastal Studies Institute (coastalstudiesinstitute.org) is evaluating the ecological impact of a proposed offshore energy project. I am responsible for the bioacoustic data analysis on the project--writing programs to automatically detect and classify marine mammal vocalizations, correlate them to oceanographic features, characterize the noise, and model the acoustic propagation. I have shared my work on this project at several international conferences, including Ocean Sciences, Acoustical Society of America, and Society for Marine Mammalogy. This is an ongoing, part-time contract; every year CSI retrieves instruments from the ocean, and I analyze the data.

I also supervised the development of demonstration code in jupyter notebook, demonstrating how to access and utilize different NOAA resources, using geospatial analysis in python or R.

I provided technical support for research in psychoacoustics. This involved data acquisition, signal processing, data analysis, GUI development, and real-time programming to automate auditory experiments on human subjects. Some of my more interesting projects include:-Real-time modification of auditory feedback, including pitch-shifting -Implemented an “ideal binary mask” in time-frequency, using a gammatone filter bank-Developed and taught a short course on signal processing for the audiology graduate students

Contract programming (matlab, python, C++) part-time. Develop signal / image processing prototypes. Evaluate the performance of detection and classification algorithms using machine learning. In one contract (for New Folder Consulting), I used image processing to extract features and machine learning to classify images obtained from ground-penetrating radar.
