I oversaw global clinical planning and development at various stages for COVID-19, Clostridiodes difficile, tick- borne encephalitis, influenza and several preclinical candidate vaccines. I also had specific responsibility for clinical development in Asia-Pacific, including a team in Japan and Australia.

SPMSD was a joint venture between Sanofi Pasteur and Merck to develop and commercialise a wide range of vaccines and sera in a large part of Europe. As VP Development I was responsible for Clinical Development, Epidemiology, Regulatory, Quality, Pharmacovigilance, and Operational Excellence, including Study Operations, Project Management and Development Department Finance. The Department had a staff of around 150, in HQ and countries. Achievements during my tenure included marketing authorisations for Gardasil 9, Vaxelis and Vaxigrip Tetra, as well as a major departmental transformation programme.

EPIC Bio was a Singapore-based joint venture between Emergent BioSolutions and Temasek Life Sciences Ventures to develop pre-pandemic vaccines for H5N1 influenza.

OETC was a joint venture between Emergent BioSolutions and Oxford University, to develop MVA85A. MVA85A is a vaccine designed to boost responses to BCG and hence improve protection from tuberculosis.

Led a multifunctional team developing a range of vaccines based on modified vaccinia Ankara as a viral vector platform. Indications under development included tuberculosis, influenza and acute respiratory viruses. The team was located primarily in the UK and Germany with other staff are based in the US, South Africa and Singapore. The work involved extensive collaboration with joint venture partners, NGOs and government agencies. I sat on several corporate committees.

Built and led a European group to plan and manage clinical development of numerous vaccines. The role later grew to leading a group responsible for clinical development of bacterial vaccines around the world. Particular successes included launch of Meningitec and Prevenar and initiation of development of Prevenar-13. Meningitec, a meningococcal group C conjugate vaccine, was the first such vaccine ever launched, initially in the UK and subsequently in a range of countries. Prevenar was the first pneumococcal conjugate vaccine ever launched. Responsible for Prevenar clinical development in Europe, China, Japan and a number of other countries and the the start of clinical development of the expanded version, Prevenar-13.

Led team responsible for UK based clinical development of lansoprazole, paediatric and adult vaccines, antibiotics and early stage trials of a range of products.

Responsible for establishing European clinical pharmacology needs and running clinical pharmacology studies in Europe.

Responsible for UK clinical trials on cisparide. Medical supervision of on-site clinical pharamcology unit. Medical support for other development programmes and medical affairs, incluidng pharmacovigilance and advertising copy approval.

Research on preclinical model of pulmonary drug-radiation interactions.
