During my tenure in the military, I have served in two very distinct roles- Port Security Specialist and Boatswains Mate. PORT SECURITY SPECIALIST-Duties included risk assessment and mitigation of hazards and threats within various maritime environments, proficiency in personal weapons systems including 9mm and .40 Caliber handguns, M-16 / M-4 Rifles, as well as Crew-served weapons including the M-240 and M-2 machine guns, knowledge and utilization of law enforcement procedures and techniques including certification for OC exposure, establishing and maintaining entry control points, and interacting with the the public from a security standpoint. BOATSWAINS MATE-Crewman on various small-boat platforms including 25’ Boston Whaler and 32’ Transportable Port Security Boats as well as 25’ SAFE response boat. Duties of which included boat pilotage, watch standing, navigation, certification and usage of rescue and survival equipment to include pyrotechnics, personal protective gear for cold weather, and lifesaving equipment. Collateral duties during this time period also included:Rescue and Survival Petty Officer – Conducted maintenance and upkeep of equipment and associated records and logs for 30+ personnel attached to the waterborne security division.Squad Leader – Direct supervisor for 5 junior personnel, including responsibility to oversee and facilitate training and qualifications for those members.During this time frame I have had the opportunity to participate in three overseas deployments including Cuba, Kuwait, and South Korea.

Duties included assisting in production of video projects (including the Back Country Video for Denali National Park in Alaska and On the Waterfront), print media (Marine Tactical magazine - the Journal of Maritime Law Enforcement) and web content. This was achieved through the daily use of camera equipment and in both National Park and public waterway environments. Programs were shot from either a law enforcement or informative perspective. Position also required daily use of computer programs such as Microsoft word and Excel for data and content management.
