ex-Business Development Manager on the BEACON biorefining project.Responsible for outreach and company recruitment with the aim of assisting SME's and larger companies to identify potential new value streams through innovation and pilot scale process development. Background: A multidisciplinary scientist and expert analytical chemist with supplementary industrial experience ranging from medical sciences, agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, gas sensor technology, biodiversity, soil science and multivariate modelling to the biorefining of high sugar ryegrasses to fuel ethanol and higher value platform chemicals.Particularly interested in natural product/high value component extraction in industrial symbiosis applications and the use of cross-flow filtration (MF/UF/NF/RO) for downstream pre-processing prior to prep-scale separation via counter current chromatography.

Business Development ManagerIbers, Aberystwyth University Dec 2010 - Jun 2023AberystwythBEACON was a biorefining initiative, backed with more than £25 million over 13 year from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Welsh Government. BEACON facilitated collaborative research with industry in the development and commercialization of novel products derived from plant biomass. BEACON was key to the development of the unique (within the UK) pilot scale biorefining facility based at IBERS Aberystwyth University. The facility is capable of handling multiple different feedstocks and has a variety of key pilot-scale processing capabilities (screw presses, steam explosion, continuous centrifuges, MF/UF/NF/RO rigs and fermentation from 1 litre to 300 litres) to enable the separation and isolation or bioconversion of components from the feedstocks. The BEACON project was a multi-university consortium comprising Aberystwyth, Bangor, Swansea and the University of South Wales. -
