Stephen M. Mulready, current Dean of the Barney School of Business at the University of Hartford, has been associated with the University for 22 years, most recently as Executive in Residence and Adjunct Professor of Management, Strategy and Investments. He also has served as a Regent of the University and member of the Barney Board of Visitors, serving as chair member from 2010 to 2012.Steve is a recognized insurance professional and risk management expert with extensive senior management and board level experience, a strong track record of achieving profitable financials, and a solid reputation for managing change. He currently serves as advisor for the Obsidian Insurance Company.Steve retired from Crum & Forster in 2018. At C&F, Steve was COO and led the Admitted P&C business segment, which included Contractors, Health & Social Services, Manufacturing, Retail & Wholesale Goods, Transportation and Oil & Gas – collectively referred to as Industry Groups. He also was responsible for Excess & Umbrella, Professional Liability, and Marine & Property, as well as C&F’s line of business products including Risk Management, Crisis Management, Hawaii, and AUIC. In addition to his business segment role, Steve was responsible for Corporate Business Development, Product Management and Operations. Steve began his insurance career at Aetna, advancing to senior vice president and business leader of national commercial accounts, before moving on to become president of Orion Specialty. He then moved on to Royal Sun Alliance, taking on a number of positions, including president and CEO of U.S. operations. Steve was CEO of AIX Holdings, Inc., and joined C&F in 2010. Steve has a B.S. in insurance administration from the University of Connecticut and an M.B.A. from the University of Hartford. He is a former board member of Cover-All Technologies, a public IT company that serves the P&C insurance industry, and former director of Agri-Insurance, a Bermuda-based insurance company.
