As the Hydraulics Instructor I am responsible to coordinate efforts to consistently provide comprehensive hydraulics training of the highest quality to the Canadian Pacific Naval Fleet. As the Outside Services Petty Officer for the Marine System Engineering Department I coordinated and controlled the operation and maintenance of all refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, propulsion ancillary systems, diesel and gas turbine powered auxiliary equipment. Oversaw all Fleet Maintenance Facility Cape Breton and private contract work onboard coordinating with local and foreign repair facilities ensuring personnel maintained compliance with all Workplace and Safety Act regulations, ISO 14001 and all safe operating practices onboard ship. At sea, on call to respond to all Engineering Emergencies providing system knowledge and expertise to conduct machinery corrective repair procedures to maintain ship propulsion. As a Damage Control Section Base Team Leader commanded and controlled a 20-member fire and flood attack team responding to all damage control threats..Daily worked with Microsoft computer applications in carrying out administrative duties as OSS section supervisor and Regulating Petty Officer; organized work orders, coordinated staff trades training, provided written personnel evaluations, section reports, and memoranda, scheduled duty watches.

As an Engineering instructor for the Marine Systems Engineering division I instructed the Engineering Officer of the Watch course and various equipment theory and maintenance courses. Trained course candidates on complete ship class system description, normal and abnormal operations of propulsion, ancillary and auxiliary machinery. As the soul engineer onboard it was my responsibility to perform all maintenance on the twin Volvo Penta engines. I coordinated with outside sources when procuring parts or getting work done on the hull that was beyond my scope of expertise. I was responsible for ensuring the boat was ready for all her commitments, this included warming up the engines and disconnecting shore connections prior to slipping the jetty. I troubleshot any issues that arose during operations and had to fix the issues within a tight timeline. Responded to all emergencies including the time the driver hit a submerged log causing us to take on water quickly. In direct charge of the engineering watch while on duty in the machinery control room acting and directing personnel in all normal and emergency operating modes of the propulsion, ancillary and auxiliary machinery and systems onboard ship. Responsible to ensure compliance to all Marine Environmental regulations in the process of carry out duties as the Boiler Operator, operating oily water pollution abatement systems, desalination units and controlling grey and black water waste in environmentally sensitive areas. Performed drinking water quality tests, sediment and contaminant testing of oil and fuel samples. Responsible for training all subordinates so that they may obtain their next level of certification.
