It’s hard to believe I have been in the field of architecture for over 30 years now. My dad was a bricklayer. As a kid I loved watching anything being built. I remember Dad coming home from work, work boots still on, lunch box in hand and a quilted vest over his arm, walking up the driveway; tired but happy.We should all be so lucky to have a job that brings you such satisfaction. 'I went to work this morning, and there was a stack of blocks, some scaffolding and a mortar board and at the end of the day, there was a wall!' For a time I too worked in construction, framing houses and mixing mortar. My dad encouraged me to pursue architecture as a profession and along the way there were many who also encouraged me to follow this dream, especially some amazing teachers and professors.For me, a great day is when a client calls to talk about their project or their idea or their dream, and gives me a chance to help. In most cases this will include introducing them to any one of so many talented and skilled people on our team, or to some of the amazing consultants or contractors that we work with, and knowing that together we will create something new, that achieves their objectives and improves our environment. My job now, is to encourage others to pursue their dreams. What could be better than that?
