As an Interventional Radiology nurse, I have unique and very specific roles. I can be involved in many types of cases in just about all modalities of radiology, but my main goal remains the same – patient safety.I provide ongoing education to the patient and to their family members. A big part of getting the patient ready is alleviating anxiety, ensuring that the patient and the family members understand the procedure and the plan of care by encouraging them to ask questions before signing the procedural consent.I will monitor their medications, vital signs, oral intake status, laboratory results and history to ensure that it is safe to proceed with the planned procedure.As the Procedure/Sedation Nurse, I will provide the administration of conscious sedation drugs. Safety and patient monitoring is the priority in this phase.
