DUTIES AND RESPONISIBILITIES-Principal discipline officer in the prison and ensure that proper discipline is maintained through out prison.-Responible to the officer in charge in ensuring that within the prison; all rules, laws and orders are strictly observed.-Responsible for the safe custody of all journals, registers, records, papers, books and documents and record all occurrences of importance within the prison.-Being present at the unlock of the prison in the morning and supervise the distribution of prisoners' labour.-Visit and inspect the whole of the prison and see every prisoner atleast twice in every 24 hours-Ensure every prisoner is strictly searched on admission and that any prohibited article is taken from the prisoner.-Supervise the keys in the custody of the gate keeper at unlock and lock up of prison each day.-Ensure every article of food supplied for the use by the prisoners is of sound and good quality and in accurate weight and scales.-Communicate to the officer incharge every circumstances which may come to his knowledge that is likely to affect the security, health and discipline of the prisoners or efficiency of prison staff or anything which may in any way require his attention.-Carry out duties specially assigned by the officer in charge.

As acting Deputy Principal Security Officer (D.P.S.O), my responsibilities were to:1) Manage overall security and safety services,2) Provide security guidelines, planning and organization, management, direction, control and co-ordination of security operations at the University.3) Control and investigate use of illicit substances such as alcohol and drugs.4) Liaise with Government Security Organs on security matters and follow up court cases when necessary.5) Ensure effective security is maintained for the protection of university property, staff and students.6) Supervise staff, staff development and capacity building;7) Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

-In charge of CCTV Surveillance Operations.

As an intern in security and safety department, I gained more skills and knowledge in the following fields:-Crime documentation and processing.-Statement recording and analysis.-Case files compilation.-Arrests and investigative interviewing.-Intelligence/vigilance cell operations.-Access control.-Inspection and physical security checks.-Routine foot and vehicular patrol, and- CCTV control.

Conducted my academic attachment at Ruiru Police Station, Division Head Quarters. I was trained in the following areas:- Fingerprints technology-Security survey-Front desk services/Report office-Criminal and forensic investigation-Public relations and customer care-Filing and records keeping; and-Traffic department
