I began my career in education and training positions, changing course to management of clinical services, and then adding supervision of finance and information technology functions. After a half-year Interim Executive Director position, I decided that IT was my true passion, and again charted a new course. My two decades in health care IT has constantly pushed IT innovation for business’ sake, through visionary planning, successful IT projects, collaborative initiatives, service and support management, and mergers and integration. As IT was recognized as indispensable to the organization’s success, I rose further to the agency’s senior management Strategy Team as CIO, while our business grew from 17 health centers in Western Washington to 30 health centers across the states of Washington, Idaho, and Alaska. This direction culminated in an on-time, on-budget three-state, 30 health center EHR deployment completed in October 2011. With the EHR rollout complete, I left PPGNW on a high note to find new opportunities to leverage my experience in technology, healthcare, and business through a consulting career. My consulting practice has been both as a contract consultant to the MGMA Consulting Group and through my own consulting firm. Engagements have included IT assessments for health care organizations and temporary CEO and CIO positions with IT and healthcare organizations. I have also written columns for MGMA and Physicians Practice on HIT topics.
