Worked in North America, UK, Europe, Scandinavia and South Africa for both EPC and Operating companies on grassroot and revamp projects from conceptual / feasibility stage right through and including detailed design, site support during construction, commissioning and start-up.Syncrude (Suncor) Canada Ltd, Calgary, Project Development Group, Project Development Lead. 04/2021 - present.Responsible for the development stage (stage 2) of the Coker Top Heads Replacement and Coker Elevator Replacement projects. The Coker Top Heads Replacement project provides the opportunity to replace some of the major internal components, such as the cyclones and wear plates, that are nearing their end of life. Successful completion of the project will reduce life cycle costs and production costs due to excessive downtime, increase reliability / availability and reduce turnaround durations. The project is very execution heavy with an estimated cost of around $200MM TIC and planned for the 2028/2029 TAs. Responsible for the successful completion of Facility Objectives, Lessons Learned, TQA Plan, Creative Alternatives workshops as well as the Decision Analysis in establishing the scope to carry forward into Concept Select. The Coker Elevator Replacement project replaces end of life equipment that operates in a harsh environment. Responsible for a number of projects and maintenance MOCs in supporting the KPIC group to optimize and increase production levels. Provided oversight and direction to several EPCs, supported by a multi-disciplined team overseeing EPC design engineering activities. STG Steam Link project – scope included Cogen/STG rotor upgrades together with connecting the HP/MP and LP steam headers of each plant. Project highlights - $160MM TIC, GHG intensity reduction of ~ 60,000 tonnes CO2 per year, additional 25MW of power generation per year, approx. $0.2 USD $/bbl savings and 1kbpd availability improvement. Also provides operational flexibility to reduce boiler restart and response times.Worked closely with EPC to develop the project scope of work, man-hour estimates, schedules – reviewed weekly/monthly progress reports, developed engineering surveillance plan (ESP) for deliverables (based on criticality) and document distribution matrix (DDM). Coordinated and managed cost reduction exercise which yielded reduction of approx. $7MM TIC. Responsible for the successful completion of project risk assessments, process safety review, Hazop, 3D modelling design reviews and constructability reviews together with a number of process studies including dynamic simulation, transient analysis and various relief systems modifications to overcome current operational issues.
