This job involves carrying out preventative maintenance as well as providing breakdown cover for the plants overhead cranes and other lifting equipment. This role has work varying in size and complexity and can be challenging at times. I am regularly expected to work both individually and as part of a team and decision making is a key element of the role especially where health and safety are concerned.I am well experienced with the following :1) Brakes and braking systems.(Installation, testing, maintenance and repair.)2) Various crane types(ranging from very old cranes to the most modern cranes)3) Crane motions and drive systems.(Inspection, repair and maintenance)4) Hoist ropes and lifting attachments (Inspection, repair and maintenance).5) Gearboxes, and other mechanical components( inspection, repair, maintenance and overhauls)Being trained as a multi-skilled apprentice has also allowed me to gain a good knowledge of various electrical systems on cranes including faultfinding, repair and maintenance. From leaving secondary school i went straight into employment with Tata Steel Tubes in Corby as a multi-skilled apprentice. The apprenticeship was designed to last four years however i finished in three years as i worked ahead of schedule. The apprenticeship itself taught me all the skills necessary to become a highly skilled individual capable of working on a variety of disciplines within a heavy industrial environment.
