Fine Artist studio practice in London and Italy

MACC - Museo d'Arte Contemporanea di Cogliandrino – is a nonprofit artist-run space created by artist Stephen Nelson with the aim of showing contemporary art in Basilicata, Southern Italy.MACC’s present incarnation is an isolated local bus stop on the edge of Pollino National Park in Basilicata. It is hoped that over forthcoming years the gallery will become a valued feature of the community enabling international artists to explore and realise unique ideas and radical concepts within this little-known area of Italy.MACC’s aim is to put back some of the fun in exhibiting art, allowing artists to experiment and take risks in a new and unusual venue.MACC’s inaugural exhibition BLACK HEART will present the work of London-based artist David Austen, who is creating a site-specific work.

Exhibiting living British contemporary artists for the first time in those countries.; at various universities including Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art, Oxford. Cheltenham University, Portsmouth University, Newcastle University and St Martins.; for Art History Abroad. Travelling to Italy with gap year students teaching architecture,painting and sculpture in Rome, Naples, Venice, Florence and Siena. Weekends in Paris Naples and Venice looking at Impressionism, the Baroque in Italy and the Biennale. Author of Contemporary Art Course for Art History Abroad looking at the contemporary scene in London with a visit to the Venice Bienalle; Teaching Contextual studies, Graphic design and sculpture to Btec students on pre degree design course. Lecturer for corporate groups for Tate including Frida Kahlo, Matisse Picasso, Joshua Reynolds, Hopper, Rothko and Altermodern and Michelangelo's drawings at the British Museum.Lecturer on Modernism at the Course, Berkeley St London. Delivery of 6 lectures on the rise of Modernism from Paris to Abstract Expressionism in America.2011 Designed and delivered activity guide for Pino Pascali exhibition at Camden Arts Centre London. Looking with Stephen Nelson for teachers and educational proffesionals.

Guided artist tours of exhibitions Yves Klein, Aratjara, Doubletake, Unbound and Russian Art.Created touch workshops with Jefford Horrigan for visually impaired people for Art of Mexico show and Richard Long.Sunday talks at the Serpentine Gallery. Part of an ongoing artists and public discussions1990 Collaborated with musicians, writers and dancers on year long residency with Havering Primary School project to stage a final performance at the Royal Festival Hall.

Creating and leading workshops with Primary and Secondary school groups on exhibitions by Joan Miro, Bruce Nauman, Arshile Gorky, Tony Cragg and Jacob Epstein. Devised and led workshops for disabled groups. Worked on pioneering touch workshops for the blind and partially sighted.Main duties involved welcoming school groups and helping students to create art works based around the ideas of the artists exhibiting.
