Recruitment Sales Executive selling classified advertising across The Metro, Evening Standard and metro.co.uk. The newspapers have a combined daily readership of 2.5 million & the website is viewed by 5 million unique users every monthSelling to both agencies and direct clients on a daily basis on both short & long term campaigns. This requires both the ability to handle unexpected workloads quickly & professionally and the ability to plan complicated campaigns & negotiations over several weeks or even months.Regular dealings with agencies such as MediaCom, Penna, MKH, WS Advertising, Cavendish, Blackbridge & AIA mean that I am heavily involved in planning both print & digital campaigns for large scale organisations & corporations in the public & commercial sectors.Nature of role requires a high degree of account management & speaking to clients who may not be recruiting at the moment to ensure we are the first method they think of when vacancies become available. This also includes pitching the benefits of face to face meetings with the team reps & once a meeting is confirmed, liaising with marketing team to create client specific presentations.Responsible for yearly revenues in excess of £670,000 including over £30,000 in digital revenue.Achievements – As part of a strategy day, I created & presented an idea for a digital ‘spotlight’ add on for online banner/mpu campaigns to management. This idea was given the green light & after development carried out by myself, will shortly be brought to the market.
  • Publications Uk
    Display Advertising Exec
    Publications Uk Jul 2009 - Jan 2010
Advertising Sales Executive for a contract publisher who prints yearbooks, directories and magazines for various associations, chambers of commerce, forums and the Commonwealth. During my time at the company I have sold successfully on titles such as The Building Societies Association Yearbook, the Scottish Renewables Yearbook and both annual and quarterly publications for the Bedfordshire & Luton Chamber of CommerceI have adapted to calling companies from a wide range of industries including International banks and building societies, renewable energy providers and both large scale and SME’s in the Bedfordshire area. I have managed to successfully modify my sales pitches to effectively sell Display Advertising to all these sectorsHad regular contact with the clients themselves, be it clarifying the criteria’s that companies had to meet before they could advertise within the publications, to coordinating the uploading of online editions of the titles onto the official websites of the groups. These calls demanded a high level of courtesy and professionalism as they are very often highly esteemed and well established organisations.Achievements – Brought in new companies such as Cybertech and Standard & Poors who had never advertised within publication before. Sold all outside back covers in Business Focus magazine for 2010 three months before year began.
  • Emap
    Display Account Manager
    Emap Oct 2008 - Apr 2009
Display sales executive for Construction News, a weekly business to business title with a paid for ABC certificated circulation of 20,000 and is widely regarded to be the leading title in its field. My role was as one half of a two person team who brought in all display revenue for the southern portion of the country. This required regular meetings with my colleague to discuss upcoming features, client needs, weekly sales targets and revenue in the pipe line. As the magazine featured a different feature every week I was in contact with professionals from a wide range of sectors ranging from insurance firms, large scale corporations, media agencies & exhibition organizers all the way down to small business who had a very niche product but that was feature relevant. As well as display advertising I was also selling across the entire Construction News digital portfolio. Here I displayed an aptitude for selling on website, regular sector news bulletins, product updates and stand alone emails. Each had its own benefits and pricing scheme which meant I had to be knowledgeable about each of them and be able to effectively give this information to the companies I spoke to, many of whom had little or no digital advertising experience. It also meant explaining the specifics of a CPM costing scheme. Was responsible for the selling of product cards and loose inserts which regularly contributed a large portion of the magazines revenue. Role required regular contact with editorial, design, web and business development teams.Achievements- Was part of team that won online sales competition, convinced Cemplas to run a special email shot to celebrate 40 years of companies operation despite strong initial doubts by company director to the benefits of online advertising.
  • Metropolis Business Publishing
    Sales Executive
Metropolis Business Publishing Feb 2007 - Sep 2008
17 issues of The Landscaper magazine which is a monthly business to business title with a free controlled circulation of 7,000. It is considered one of the heavy weight magazines in the landscaping & horticulture industry. Started as the sole classified and web advertising sales person and from the start I consistently met and exceeded personal targets on both print and online mediums. Dealt with SME’s both over the phone and face to face at trade show. My efforts made a record amount of revenue on the website and other creative moves such as link placements more than doubled web traffic to the site. Website adverts included banners, skyscrapers, expandable adverts and animated files.Later solely handled all display advertising as well as maintaining my previous duties. Had regular contact with large multi-national companies and negotiated display advertising packages worth in excess of £5000. Played a major role in redevelopment of www.landscapermagazine.com. Was asked to plan and give a presentation outlining how the new website should look, what it should feature and a pricing scheme. Consulted with website designers throughout this process to decide the best way to both promote the sites editorial contents and to maximize the revenue potential of the site. Landscaper launched its own monthly online edition in February 2008 which provided me with both another tool for selling the print version of the magazine and also offered me new selling possibilities such as video adverts and images that linked back to particular pages of the internet.Achievements – Sold to Volvo, John Deere, Briggs and Stratton and dealt with the agencies for Kubota, Isuzu, Mercedes, Mitsubishi and Fiat who also booked regular advertising. Some of those agencies are Melon, Starcom Mediavest, Brilliant Media and BJKE.
