Stephen Pevnick, Professor Emeritus, received his BA degree in Design from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1968 and his MFA degree in Multimedia from Washington University in St. Louis in 1972. He taught sculpture at the University of South Florida in Tampa until 1978. His current research centers around real- time multimedia and computer controlled kinetic sculpture and water. It lead to the creation of a marketable computer controlled waterfall called the Graphical Waterfall™. The Graphical Waterfall™, when installed in a large public venue blurs the boundaries between Art, Design and Theater. As the artist and designer, Pevnick oversees the graphical content so that the waterfall has a unique aesthetic. His work in international special events, trade shows and marketing meetings brings to fruition his interest in nontraditional venues. Over 200 exhibits of Graphical Waterfalls® of different sizes have been successfully installed. The first Graphical Waterfall®, initially called the Rainfall Project, ran at the U. of S. Florida in Tampa in 1977. Research continued at the the U. of Wisconsin - Milwaukee until 1999 when the waterfalls were moved to Stephen Pevnick’s 21, 000 sq. ft. studio building in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.The Graphical Waterfalls™, which make a non - virtual multi - media image with free falling water droplets is a programmable graphical and information display for public spaces. The research by Stephen Pevnick was to build a water feature that represented the next logical step in the tradition of Western fountains.
