My Primary role is to provide GIS support for RSK’s ecology department. However, I also support a number of other teams such as asbestos, geo-sciences and environmental monitoring. I have worked on a wide range of projects including international projects carrying out remote sensing, spatial and statistical analysis and producing maps for various purposes. Predominately I work with MapInfo or ArcGIS, other programs such as QGIS, AutoCAD and Google Earth are used when required. I work with a range of different data formats and projection systems. I am currently one of the leads in mobile data capture using Trimble GPS devices and tablets using ArcGIS Collector app. I also take part in ecological field surveys.

King'S Lynn

I was responsible for setting up Microsoft Access databases and importing data into a MapInfo GIS database. I provided GIS support and advice for various projects. I dealt with consultations and data requests.

Sherkin Island

Throughout the season I trained to become a phytoplankton specialist, contributing towards the long term phytoplankton monitoring programme. This involved collecting water samples from sites within the Roaringwater Bay. The samples were then taken back to the laboratory and examined. I also used the recorded data to produce graphs for inclusion within a scientific paper. Whilst working on the Island I carried out various chores including maintenance of buildings and equipment at the marine station.

I was responsible for processing a backlog of species distribution GIS datasets using ArcGIS for the IUCN Red data List.

Ontario, Canada

During the summer of 2008 I travelled to Canada and was employed at a summer camp as a high ropes course / rock climbing instructor. I was responsible for running activities for children aged between 4 and 17. I undertook daily checks of the high ropes course and equipment, carrying out repairs and maintenance when required.
