Principal Process Engineer
Houston, Texas, Us
Technologist responsible for leading a team of ~5 engineers on technology development, basic design projects, studies and proposals. Prepared and delivered process training and presentations to clients. Supervised and developed technology improvement programs including pilot plant studies. Reported to the VP Petrochemical Technology.• Reduced the required catalyst by half to $10 million with a patented method for the production of ethylbenzene using very low purity ethylene (35 mol%). This resulted in successful start-up of the largest ethylbenzene unit in the world (815,000 MTA) located in Saudi Arabia. Lead engineer for the process development, proposal, basic design, Hazop and project follow-up.• • Directed the technical interface component for Lummus’ Cumene/Phenol Technology partnership with Italy’s Polimeri Europa. Achieved Lummus’ 1st award for a 200,000 MTA grass roots cumene/phenol unit located in India.• Technologist since 1999 for Lummus’ ethylbenzene process. The responsibilities included interfacing with UOP/CR&L, trouble shooting and process development/support.• Supervised the successful acceptance test and provided onsite start-up support for a new 700,000 MTA ethylbenzene unit for CNOOC/Shell in China. Developed and provided operator training. Prepared the proposal, process design, Hazop, plant check-out and supervised the catalyst loading for the unit.• Started-up and successfully passed the acceptance test of a new 770,000 MTA ethylbenzene unit located in Holland. The operating parameters required onsite modification due to underperformance of a major distillation column. Provided onsite support for over 45 days without a day off for the difficult start-up.• Experienced in over 11 Lummus process technologies demonstrating a broad aptitude for applying basic principles across a wide area of process engineering.
