I am the Director of the Centre for Health Sciences Research at the University of Salford. My research focuses on understanding the biomechanics of human movement and the role of muscle coordination in musculoskeletal pathology. As part of this work, I am investigating the mechanisms of common running injuries and have set up a running performance clinic. I also research the role of muscle coordination in knee osteoarthritis and am currently a PI on an NIHR funded project, which aims to develop a new biofeedback-based intervention for this condition. .I am also interested in wearable sensor technology research. This focuses on the use of small body-mounted sensors, which can measure movement, and textile-based electrophysiological sensors, which can measure heart rate and muscle activation. I am currently working with a local company, Smartlife, on an Innovate UK funded project, aimed at exploring how this wearable technology could be used in health and sports applications.
