Stephen is one of Australia’s leading practitioners in the field of construction, development and infrastructure law and is the Founding Principal of CDI Lawyers, a specialist construction firm that he has grown to 5 partners and around 20 lawyers. He has been engaged in some of Australia’s largest construction matters, and holds a Masters Degree in Law (where he specialised in construction law), is a certified arbitrator, a graduate of the Bar Practise Course, has been a registered adjudicator and is the author of the 3 volume Queensland Building Service published by Thomson Reuters. Stephen was also retained by the Queensland Government to publish an update to all adjudicators’ in Queensland on recent case law and the effect on BCIPA.Stephen advises leading national and international development and construction companies, project managers and key Government bodies regulating the building industry. He conducted Queensland’s first Supreme Court application to overturn an adjudication and successfully acted on behalf of a listed Australian company and its Malaysian joint venture partner in Australia’s largest adjudication. Stephen pioneered the use of "Green Bonds" in energy-rated buildings and acted for the builder in the construction of Queensland’s (then) highest Greenstar / NABERS rated building.Recent projects on which he was retained include: the $600million Southbank Project, Emporium Hotel, the Pullman & Ibis Hotels at Brisbane Airport, Capri Hotel in Albert Street, the Fiji Airport upgrade, Skytower, Toowoomba Airport, Gasworks Project, the $400million 30 Albert Street project, Brookside, Pacific Fair & Australia Fair shopping centres, Nova City in Cairns and the Ferny Grove Transit Centre.In the 2015 to 2023 editions of the Doyle's Legal Guide, Stephen was named as the "preeminent" construction dispute lawyer in Qld.
